Desoto Lakes offers residents the opportunity to feel like they are living in the country while being less than twenty minutes from Downtown Sarasota. Although many of the streets are quite suburban, with quarter and half acre lots, the neighborhood also features a number of larger lots as well.

As one of the older neighborhoods in the Sarasota area, many of the bigger lots have been left largely in their natural states, providing a lovely natural habitat of tall pine trees, stately oaks, and plenty of palmettos and other lush foliage for the "Old Florida" feel. Many of the residents appreciate the diverse population of both domestic and native animals. It is quite common to spot eagles, hawks, and osprey flying overhead and armadillos, opossums, otters, and even the occasional bobcat exploring the neighborhood. Many also enjoy being outside of the city limits and having pastures for their horses and cows to roam and run.

There are a variety of architectural styles throughout Desoto Lakes from vintage to modern, with homes built during nearly every decade since the 1920's. And the preservation of the natural landscaping has helped create a number of tranquil canopy roads where oak trees create beautiful tunnels of green.

Golfers have plenty of options in Desoto Lakes. Immediately to the east are The Groves Golf Course, The Highlands Golf Course, and The Meadows Country Club. To the west is the Rolling Green Golf Club. To the north, University Parkway is lined with the Palm Aire Country Club and the University Park Country Club, and offers a short trip to the fabulous golf courses in Lakewood Ranch.

Foodies love the fact that Desoto Lakes is also home to Jessica's Organic Farm. The five acre farm has been organic for thirty years, and it's neighborhood stand is a favorite for weekend shoppers who don't want to travel downtown for the Sarasota Farmer's Market. For those who like to eat out, the The Mall at University Town Center is only a few minutes away and offers a number of different restaurants, like The Cheesecake Factory and The Capital Grille, and The Shoppes at University Town Center includes local favorites like Bonefish Grill and C'est la Vie.

And of course, University Parkway offers plenty of places to shop, for food, for fashion, and nearly anything else you can imagine.

So, if you're looking for that out-of-the-way feel while you're actually in the middle of everything, perhaps Desoto Lakes is for you. Contact me today and let's go explore the possibilities.
