In 1995, the master-planned community started developing seven different villages on a former timber ranch on the border of Sarasota and Manatee counties. Summerfield, the first neighborhood development, has since evolved into the fourteen different villages of Lakewood Ranch, offering a wide range of single-family homes, condominiums, villas, townhomes, and luxury estates. Each village in Lakewood Ranch has its own distinct vibe, catering to a certain sort of lifestyle.

Condominiums in the gated enclave of the Esplanade and the 55+ Del Webb start in the mid $200s, while the downtown vibe of the Waterfront at Main Street start in the high $300s. Beyond the gates of Country Club East and Lakewood National are some of the finest golf courses around with a wide variety of homes. Nature lovers will feel right at home with the lush landscaping and nature preserves of Indigo, Harmony, and Savannah.

Each home in Polo Run is equipped with solar panels, making it the first solar powered village in Lakewood Ranch. Arbor Grande offers innovative floor plans that make the most of indoor/outdoor, year-round Florida living. Waterside, Lakewood Ranch's newest village, was built on twenty miles of shoreline surrounding seven beautiful lakes, giving every home a tranquil lakefront view. And the gorgeous Grand Clubhouse of the Tuscan-inspired Lake Club is only a glimpse of the luxury homes ranging from the $700s to over $1.2M.

As distinct as each of the Lakewood Ranch villages are, they all share in what this wonderful community has developed over the last twenty years. Much of the 8,500 acres that comprise Lakewood Ranch have remained undeveloped, except for the miles of hiking trails that allow residents a connection with nature. Each of the villages has its own unique amenities, with many of them boasting championship golf courses.

Lakewood Ranch has a number of great schools, including public and private, from kindergarten all the way through to college. In addition to condominiums, the Main Street area also offers plenty of shopping, delicious dining options, a movie theater with all of the latest films, and plenty of events and activities including live music and block parties. And of course, as University Parkway has continued to expand with the University Town Center and other shopping centers, the area has plenty to offer for those who want to get out and about.

Even offering its own hospital, Lakewood Ranch has certainly grown into a wonderful place to live for a wide variety of people. Only a short drive from Downtown Sarasota and area beaches, if the idea of living in a planned community and having virtually everything you need at your disposal appeals to you, it’s time to explore some of the options.
