Wherever you live in the Sarasota area, you have year-round access to fresh produce. With snowbirds flying home for the summer months, not all of the area farmers markets are open year long. However, there are still plenty of options to get locally grown and organic produce.

Phillippi Farmhouse Market

Every Wednesday from October to May, Phillippi Estate Park at 5500 South Tamiami Trail hosts a farmers market from 9am-2pm. In addition to fresh produce, more than 40 vendors gather to offer plants for home gardens, prepared food, and other specialty items.

Englewood Farmers Market

Also from October to May, the Englewood Farmers Market takes place on Historic Dearborn Street on Thursdays from 9am-1pm. With over 50 vendors, this is the second largest farmers market in the area, and it offers a lot more than just produce. The one-acre market offers a variety of locally made treasures, including popsicles, gourmet jams, fresh pickles and more.

North Port Farmers Market

The North Port Farmers Market is one of the area's newest and takes place at 4970 City Hall Boulevard next to City Hall on Fridays from 9am-1pm. Open from October through April, it's a great place to get your fresh fruits, veggies, meats, and fish as well as arts, plants and specialty foods.

Siesta Key Farmers Market

The Siesta Key Farmers Market is open year-round, but the hours change in the summer month. From October to May, the market is open from 8am-1pm every Sunday at 5124 Ocean Boulevard, but closes at noon during the warmer months of summer. However, throughout the year, it offers a laid back, island venue where you can shop for your fresh fruits and vegetables, locally made art, and specialty foods to live music and great coffee.

Old Miakka Farmers Market

The Old Miakka Schoolhouse at 15800 Wilson Road also hosts a year-round market on Saturdays from 9am-2pm. For a taste of Old Florida, this outdoor market is right in the center of the old pioneer community with majestic oaks draped with Spanish moss. Even if you regularly visit one of the more centrally located markets, this location is worth at least one good visit just for the experience.

Venice Farmers Market

Every Saturday, The Venice Farmers Market fills Historic Downtown Venice with a variety of local artists, bakers, craftsmen, farmers, and fishermen. Located at the corner of Nokomis and Tampa Avenue from 8am-noon, this market always offers a wonderful assortment of hand-crafted products and delectable foods.

Sarasota Farmers Market

Perhaps the most well-known of our local farmers markets, the Downtown Sarasota Farmers Market is also our oldest. Established in 1979, this eclectic market brings together over 70 vendors into over 5,000 square feet of space at the corner of Main Street and Lemon Avenue. Open every Saturday from 7am-1pm, the Downtown Sarasota Farmers Market has become a weekly tradition for a number of residents, offering a wonderful assortment of foods, crafts, and other products, as well as live music and a great place to interact with your neighbors.
