March in an exciting time in Sarasota. Not only is it the height of season with all of the snowbirds in full flock, but there are also quite a few holidays. And one of the great things about holidays in Sarasota is getting to celebrate them on the beach!

But before we get into the major holiday parties, from March 10-13 you have the opportunity to go see The 88th Annual Arcadia All-Florida Championship Rodeo. It's only about an hour's drive east of Sarasota to get out to Arcadia, but if you've never seen bareback riding, barrel racing, and bull riding live and up close, Arcadia's rodeo is “The Grandaddy of 'Em All.”

On the 12th, there are a number of choices for things to do. You can go check out the hundreds of pirate-themed vendors at the Anna Maria Island Privateers Thieves Market on Coquina Beach from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Or you could start celebrating St. Patrick's Day early at the 5th Annual Irish Celtic Festival & Lucky Dog Parade in Lakewood Ranch from 11 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. And maybe after those events, you'll want to head over to Lane Plaza Too in Lakewood Ranch for the Heroes Party at the Ranch Craft Beer and Music Festival. At this party you'll support veterans with the Heroes Welcome Home, a local non-profit, while enjoying the music of the Bayou Brothers Band, Archer Classic Rock Band, and Maiden Cane from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Considering the quantities of suds you and your friends might consume this month, you might want to get a good workout in The First Watch Sarasota Half Marathon & Two-Person Relay Race on March 13 starting 7 a.m. You should be done in plenty of time to get up to Anna Maria Island for the St. Patrick's Day Parade starting at 4 p.m. from Holmes Beach City Hall along Marina Drive to Palm Drive.

When it comes to St. Patrick's Day, choices abound on where to wear green in Sarasota. The Shamrock Pub hosts its 7th Annual St. Patrick's Day Block Party starting at 9 a.m. with music from seven bands starting at 2 p.m. Lynches Pub and Grill on St. Armand's Circle throws its 29th Annual St. Patrick's Day Celebration featuring Irish stepdancers, bagpipers, and music by the Jacobites, all starting at 11 a.m. You can also enjoy Irish dancers, bagpipers, and live Irish music at Pub 32 Irish Gastro Pub, including a beautiful Irish buffet. Of course, you could also head up to Bradenton and go to Clancy's 16th Annual St. Patrick's Day Bash with traditional Irish style food such as corned beef and cabbage and shepherd's pie, plus live music from multiple bands all day.

Also make a note that the 80th Annual Sarasota County Fair takes place from March 18–27. So once you recover from your St. Patrick's Day celebrations, head over to the Sarasota County Fairgrounds for your cotton candy, elephant years, deep fried everything, carnival games and midway rides. Of course, the 4-H Club and FFA will also be showing a number of animals available for purchase.

As Easter comes around, you've got a number of places to take the little ones to hunt for Easter eggs. On March 25, Sarasota Jungle Gardens, a 10-acre zoological and tropical botanical garden in the heart of Sarasota, will host its annual Jungle Trails & Bunny Tails, featuring a continuous Easter Egg Hunt, pictures with the Easter Bunny, face painting, a petting zoo, pony rides, and many other fun, family friendly events. On March 26, the 16th Annual Easter Egg Hunt & Games on Siesta Key takes place for tots ages 1 - 6 at Beach Access Point #5. Since registration is limited to the first 125 children for the egg hunt, you may also want to consider the Sandbar Restaurant's 30th Annual Easter Egg Hunt at 9 a.m. After the Egg Hunt, the Easter Bunny will lead a parade down Pine Avenue for the 6th Annual Easter Egg Roll and 5th Annual Easter Bonnet Contest. There's also the "EGGstravaganza" Easter Egg Hunt at Greenbrook Adventure Park in Lakewood Ranch for kids ages 2 -13 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m, another Easter Egg Hunt Eggstravaganza at the Nokomis Community Center at 10 a.m., the Mar Vista's 28th Annual Easter Egg Hunt starting at 10:00 a.m. on Longboat Key, or the 20th Annual Big Truck Day and Egg Hunt at Twin Lakes Park from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. All on Sunday, March 26!

Easter Sunday is also a great day for sunrise services. Most of them start around 6 a.m., and they're being hosted at the Mosaic Amphitheater in Rossi Waterfront Park in Bradenton Sarasota's Bayfront Park, the Lido Beach Pavilion, and of course, on the newly refurbished Siesta Key Beach.

Have a great March, Sarasota!
