SPF Property of the Month: 514 Oak Bay Dr.

When people are looking for a house, it helps to think about their lifestyles and the amenities that will best support and enhance them. Sometimes, when I see a particular house, I imagine the kind of people who would be happiest there. For instance, I listed a house near Osprey that would be perfect for active lifestyles and nature lovers.

The home at 514 Oak Bay Dr. is a very pretty 1,846 square feet at the end of a cul-de-sac overlooking a nature preserve. It’s just about one eighth of a mile away from the Legacy Trail, the bicycle trail that runs from Venice to South Sarasota. There is talk about extending the trail all the way to downtown, so this spot would be great for those who like to bike.

Essentially, the home sits in the heart of Sarasota County, smack in the middle of a big part of our history. About 80,000 acres of that area once belonged to Bertha Palmer, one of Sarasota's major landowners in the early 1900s. She was also a big contributor to charities for women, children, and cultural initiatives, which has also become part of Sarasota's legacy as a giving community. The Oaks Club and its award-winning golf courses overlooking Little Sarasota Bay was one of Mrs. Palmer’s crowning achievements, and it is only a few blocks away from this home.

As for the house itself, is has three spacious bedrooms and nine-foot ceilings throughout, so it allows for a lot of flow. And of course, the disappearing sliding glass doors opening onto the screened lanai and pool really open the place up. The crown molding in the living area lends to its elegance, and the master bath is an experience in itself. It includes a double vanity, a glass cube shower, and a soaker tub.

The home has been very well maintained since it was built in 1999. The HVAC and washer and dryer were replaced last year, and it just got a new water heater as well. It also features a two-car garage and plenty of storage space.

A serene natural setting that's close to the heart of all things Sarasota -- does that sound like your kind of lifestyle? Then let’s go take a look at your next house together soon. Drop me a line and let me know when you’d like to take a tour.
